It was a meaningful night for Akron Children’s Hospital at an event hosted by brothers Rick and Lou Altman of the A. Altman Company. Friends of Akron Children’s gathered at Table Six in North Canton to learn more about the hospital’s upcoming North Canton Health Center in Stark County. Rick and Lou Altman are the principals of A. Altman Company, the developer of the new facility.

“We are so proud to be a part of this exciting growth in Stark County,” said Rick Altman. “Bringing all these services under one roof will make things so much easier for the families Akron Children’s Hospital serves in this area.”

The big news of the night came as the Altman brothers announced they are donating the building that will house the North Canton Health Center to Akron Children’s after the completion of a 30-year lease.

“I can’t thank Rick and Lou enough for believing in the mission of Akron Children’s Hospital,” said Bill Considine, CEO of Akron Children’s. “They are an important part of making sure that the children of Stark County have the resources they need to live happier and healthier lives.”

To honor their gift, the building’s main lobby will be named the Robert C. and Ruth E. Altman Lobby, in honor of Rick and Lou’s father and mother. They also received a smaller version of the health center recreated in Legos.

“There is still work to be done and funds to be raised before the health center opens,” continued Mr. Considine. The building still needs to be built and outfitted with equipment and supplies.
The North Canton Health Center is slated to open in the spring of 2019. It will include primary care offices, rehabilitation services, sports medicine and orthopedics, as well as labs and other specialties. In addition, the center will retain and create 52 jobs in Stark County with an additional 17 more in the following 3 to 5 years after the center opens.
